Trey Maihi

Certificate in Screen and Performing Arts
Course Director

As a graduate of the Certificate in Screen and Performing Arts in 2005, Trey Maihi not only discovered his talent for performance, he also realised his ability to influence young Maori and Pacific people to further their education and achieve success.

His own success was transformed into his current role as Course Director for BEST; as he realised that doing a course at BEST helped him gain confidence and motivation to apply himself in a new field of work.

While training to be an actor/director he learned about human behaviour and how to coach and mentor others.

"A lot of Maori and Pacific Islanders have low self-esteem and a limited view of the world.  At BEST, just as my Performing Arts tutors encouraged me to believe in what I do, I hope to empower my students to have courage and dream big too!"

Trey has not given up his passion for the creative arts.  He still writes his own theatre plays and is involved in the music industry through his church.
